Wang resin is probably the most widely used resin in solid-phase organic synthesis.
As a standard support, Wang resin can be utilized for the solid-phase immobilization of acids and phenolic compounds in solid-phase organic synthesis (SPOS). The formed ester bonds exhibit good stability under various reaction conditions, yet they can be easily cleaved through treatment with 50% (by volume) trifluoroacetic acid/dichloromethane (TFA/DCM). For the immobilization of amines, Wang resin can also be converted into a solid-phase form equivalent to a liquid-phase standard carbonate protecting group by reacting with phosgene or reactive carbonates, such as carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) or bis(p-nitrophenyl)carbonate.
